On July 1, 2025, at the Rafiel Agladze Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and Electrochemistry, the Interdisciplinary Consortium of Radiation Sciences and Safety held the first scientific-practical seminar - "The New Reality of Radiation Safety in Georgia: From Challenges to Sustainable Development", which aims to assess modern challenges related to radiation risks and deepen interdisciplinary cooperation.
The seminar planned to create an innovative platform that will promote integrated cooperation between science, the public sector and society. This will be a space where common visions on radiation safety management will be developed, action plans will be created, public consultations will be held, and open databases will be introduced, ensuring decision-making based on facts and taking into account ethical standards.
Georgia is an important strategic participant in the formation and consolidation of the regional radiation safety architecture. To strengthen strategic engagement, the seminar focused on the following practical areas: radiation safety; prevention of radiation contamination; education and culture of radiation protection.
Founding organizations of the consortium:
- R. Agladze Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and Electrochemistry, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University;
- Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Elefther Andronikashvili Institute of Physics;
- Laboratory of Radiation Safety Problems of the Ivane Beritashvili Experimental Biomedicine Center;
- Teaching - Research Scientific Center (TRSC)
The seminar was attended by doctoral students from various fields working in radiation safety and education, and field specialists, including:
Nino Utiashvili – Director of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Agency and representatives from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the Environmental Information and Education Center.
